Solid-oak window sill — Stepolia

An interior solid-wood window sill is a detail that radically changes the feel of a room. Where a PVC or lacquered-MDF sill stays discreet, a solid oak or walnut board brings warmth, depth and nobility. At Stepolia, we manufacture these sills with edge-glued laminates, to the precise dimension of your window reveal.

We mainly work on interior sills, projecting or flush, with or without drip-nose. Typical sizes range from 500 × 150 mm for a small kitchen window to 3,000 × 400 mm for a bay window or a full-height window. Standard thickness is 30 mm, but we drop to 20 mm for renovations where vertical space is constrained.

Finish is your choice: raw (sanded 120/150) for on-site varnish, pre-oiled with hardwax-oil in the workshop for a natural satin look, or tinted for custom tones. Sills ship ready to install, with protected edges and reinforced corners.

Sill types we manufacture

We adapt to your window-reveal configuration.

Classic interior sill

Projecting sill room-side with rounded drip-nose. Family-home or premium-renovation style.

Flush contemporary sill

No projection, flush with the interior wall. Minimalist style, very common in modern architecture.

Bay or full-height sill

Long spans (2–3 m), often installed on the allège. Very visual — a statement piece of the room.

Renovation sill (PVC → wood)

Replacing a PVC or MDF sill with a solid piece, with or without removing the window.

Our craftsmanship

Sill manufacturing

Our sills are made from edge-glued laminates across the whole surface. This technique keeps the sill strictly flat even under direct sun (south-west-facing sills can reach 50 °C in summer). A single-plank sill would warp or split in such conditions.

Exposed edges are finished with the same care as the visible face: same sanding, same finish. A fillet or drip-nose can be machined on the room side to hide the wall / sill joint.

Custom-sill pricing

From €60 ex VAT for an oak sill 800 × 200 mm × 30 mm. American walnut sills are about 50% more expensive than oak. Precise quote in 24 h.

Frequently asked questions

Do you also make exterior sills?
Our sills are designed for interior use (heated, ambient humidity <60%). For exterior we would need a class-3 species (larch, thermo-treated oak) and a specific varnish — we do not offer this range today.
Which finish for a window sill?
Pre-oiled hardwax-oil is the best balance: natural look, easy maintenance, tolerates small water spills. Polyurethane varnish handles plant pots better but ages less well visually. Pick by use.
How to install a solid-wood sill?
MS-polymer glue + discreet screws from below (where access from cellar or attic is available). For renovation through the top, cut the existing sill flush to the reveal and glue the new one. We supply an install guide.
What dimensions are possible?
From 500 × 150 mm to 3,000 × 400 mm in one piece. Beyond 3 m, we ship in two pieces with a mortise-and-tenon joint. Thicknesses 20, 25, 30 or 40 mm.
How is delivery organised?
Pallet with foam protection. Sills ship ready to install, with protected edges. Lead time 3 to 4 weeks depending on workshop load.
