Custom solid-oak skirting — Stepolia

The stair skirting follows the line of the flight against the wall, from bottom to top of the staircase. It should ideally match the species and finish of your treads — otherwise the visual reading of the staircase is broken. At Stepolia, we manufacture stair skirting at the same time as the treads, from the same board batch.

We offer two main heights: standard skirting (80 mm) and tall skirting (120–140 mm) for a more architectural feel. Thickness ranges from 15 to 22 mm depending on the desired effect. We supply bespoke lengths (up to 2,400 mm in a single piece) to minimise visible joints.

Skirting can be delivered raw (for on-site finish), pre-oiled with hardwax-oil (workshop), or tinted. 45° cuts for outer / inner corners can be performed in the workshop if you supply the drawings.

Tall decorative skirting

Height 120–140 mm for a premium, architectural result — classic or Haussmann style.

Our craftsmanship

Skirting manufacturing

Skirting is ripped from solid boards, planed, calibrated and moulded to your profile (sharp edge, 45° chamfer, curved profile). We guarantee ±0.5 mm tolerance on height and thickness, and dimensional stability ensured by 8–11% drying.

For batch orders, we sort boards by close tones so butt-joined skirting has no visible colour break. You can request a different finish from the treads if, for example, you want lighter or darker skirting.

Custom skirting pricing

Expect about €25 to €45 ex VAT per linear metre in solid oak depending on height and finish. Volume discounts. Request a precise quote with your linear metres.

Frequently asked questions

Will skirting be perfectly matched to my treads?
Yes if you order both together — we manufacture them from the same board batch with the same finish. Natural oak grain variations remain (solid wood, not laminate), but overall consistency is perfect.
Raw or pre-oiled, which to choose?
Raw if you want to apply the same finish to all your joinery at the same time on site. Pre-oiled with hardwax-oil if you want no additional install constraint. Workshop pre-oiling is more uniform than manual on-site application.
How is skirting installed?
MS-polymer glue on the wall + discreet nailing at the top, or threaded washer screws. For corners, cut 45° on site (or we cut in the workshop if you supply exact lengths).
How are long (up to 2.4 m) skirting boards delivered?
Palletised in a long wooden crate with foam protection. No mandatory joint for standard lengths. Delivery anywhere in Europe.
