Quarter-turn solid-oak landing — Stepolia

The landing is the keystone of a turning staircase — it links two flights and maintains the visual continuity of the piece. A correctly sized edge-glued landing often weighs several dozen kilos and must stay rigorously flat, without warping, even on spans of 1.5 to 2 metres.

We manufacture rest landings, arrival landings, and intermediate quarter-turn (90°) or half-turn (180°) landings. For non-rectangular shapes — trapezoidal, curved, non-right angles — we work directly from your stairwell drawing and cut on CNC. Fit tolerances in an existing stairwell are tight: we adjust to the tenth of a millimetre.

Four species available, matched to your treads: European oak, ash, beech, American walnut. Landings are delivered ready to install, with stringer grooves or protected edges depending on your fixing method. Oiled or hardwax-oil finish can be applied in the workshop.

Landing types we produce

We work from your staircase drawing or site measurements.

Quarter-turn landing (90°)

Between two perpendicular flights. Square or rectangular to fit the footprint.

Half-turn landing (180°)

Between two parallel flights. Elongated rectangle, common in narrow stairwells.

Arrival landing

Top of flight, transition to the upper floor. Usually trimmed to the trimmer opening.

Free-form landing

Trapezoidal, polygonal, curved. CNC cut from your DWG / PDF drawing.

Our craftsmanship

Landing manufacturing

A landing is built from solid strips edge-glued across the whole surface (no wood-on-wood top joint). This technique keeps the landing flat even on large spans where a single plank would deflect. Standard thickness is 40 mm; we can go up to 60 mm for load-bearing or suspended landings.

After gluing and pressing, the landing is sanded, calibrated in thickness, then cut on CNC to the exact shape of your drawing. We add stringer grooves, drillings for hidden fasteners, or LED cut-outs as required.

Custom-landing pricing

Price depends on area, species and shape. Expect about €180 to €450 ex VAT for a 900 × 900 mm oak landing. Free shapes: +10 to 20% depending on complexity. Precise quote in 24 h with your drawings.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make a non-rectangular landing?
Yes. Send us your DWG, PDF or a dimensioned sketch. We CNC-cut trapezoidal, curved or polygonal shapes. Cut tolerance ±0.5 mm.
Typical size for a half-turn landing?
Generally 900 × 1,800 mm to 1,000 × 2,000 mm depending on flight width. We adapt to your exact stairwell — no standard replaces site measurements.
And for a quarter-turn?
Typically 900 × 900 mm to 1,200 × 1,200 mm. The landing should at least match the tread width plus a few centimetres of clearance.
How do you deliver a 2-metre landing?
Flat on a pallet, foam protection + reinforced corners, stretch film. Sometimes 50 to 80 kg — plan two people for the final handling.
Do you supply fixings?
No, but we provide a dimensioned drawing with recommended fixing points. Your carpenter or installer adapts to your support (load-bearing wall, stringer, metal structure).
