Concrete staircase clad in solid oak — Stepolia

Stair cladding is the most effective way to transform an aged or dated staircase — 80s pine, raw concrete, laminated MDF — into a premium oak staircase, without tearing out the existing. Our pieces install over the current structure in a few hours, with permanent hold thanks to structural adhesive.

We offer two systems depending on your situation. System 1 is full cladding: treads, risers and nosings in 20–30 mm solid oak, dressing the entire flight. System 2 is thin cladding: only the visible faces (tread top and riser) are dressed, ideal when original dimensions are tight and cannot take a 30 mm addition.

Cladding works on concrete, pine, beech, plywood and even some metal staircases. The only requirement is a clean support, flat to ±2 mm, and dry. We always provide a technical install drawing and an adhesive protocol — for a flawless result without needing a specialist joiner.

What we can clad

Cladding works on most interior staircases, provided the structure is sound.

Concrete staircase

The most frequent case: dressing raw or tiled concrete with solid oak. Structural-adhesive install.

Pine or softwood staircase

Renovating a dated wood staircase without dismantling. Our oak pieces screw-and-glue to the existing structure.

Damaged MDF / laminate staircase

Renovating a worn staircase. We restore the warm look of a solid-wood piece.

Metal staircase (case-by-case)

Some metal staircases can be clad. Prior technical assessment required.

Our craftsmanship

Systems 1 & 2: differences

System 1 (full cladding): we supply a solid 30 mm tread with a rounded or chamfered nosing, a 15 mm riser, and a nosing piece if needed. Added thickness is about 30 mm on the tread, absorbable on most staircases. Benefit: identical look to a new solid staircase.

System 2 (thin cladding): we supply a thin tread surface (8–12 mm) pre-grooved and a rapported solid nosing. Added thickness is less than 15 mm total. Benefit: preserves the original step height, useful for staircases with tight regulations or low doors at the base.

Stair-cladding pricing

Expect €200 to €350 ex VAT per tread clad in solid oak, depending on system and complexity. A typical 14-step staircase costs between €2,800 and €4,900 ex VAT, delivered ready to install. Precise quote in 24 h with photos and dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

Can you clad a concrete staircase?
Yes — it's the most common case. System 1 cladding (30 mm tread) works perfectly on clean dry concrete. We supply the appropriate structural-adhesive protocol. Allow 24 h curing before use.
What about an existing pine staircase?
Yes, provided the structure is sound (no deep cracks, no moving treads). We can screw + glue on the pine support. If some treads creak, we recommend tightening them before cladding.
System 1 or System 2 — how to choose?
System 1 (full, +30 mm): if you have the room and want the look of a new solid staircase. System 2 (thin, +15 mm): if step height is already at the legal maximum, or if a low door sits at the foot of the staircase. Send us a side photo and we advise.
How do I measure?
We provide a detailed measurement document. You measure each step individually (length × tread depth × riser height). Steps are never strictly identical — we manufacture each piece to its real dimension.
What about nosings?
Supplied integrated to the tread (System 1) or as a rapported piece glued on the edge (System 2). Rounded radius 5 mm or 45° chamfer — your choice.
Manufacturing and install lead time?
Manufacturing: 4 to 5 weeks from quote and drawing approval. Install: 1 to 2 days by a joiner or confident DIYer — we supply the full protocol.
